  • I’m kinda bad at tagging - though I’m trying to be better - but all my fic stuff should be tagged appropriately! Feel free to send me an ask if you have any questions!

    General AU tag

Fic snippets (chapter previews and tumblr-exclusive bits)

A current list of my AU tags:

Here’s a list of some of my current active fic projects! Feel free to ask me about any of them!

    Whumptober 2021

It’s way past October, of course, but I still have many plans I have yet to write.

Here’s the tag and my AO3 series

    River Runs Dry (AO3, tag)

A FF7 time travel fix-it fic where Cloud time travels from the end of AC to pre-CC era Midgar, appearing in an explosion with the remnants just after he defeated Sephiroth (Yazoo and Loz attacked him before Kadaj disappeared into the lifestream).

Chapter 3 is now posted! One more chapter will mark the end of the first arc.

Cloud Strife and Genesis Rhapsodos: Time Traveling Extraordinaires (AO3, tag)

Yet another ff7 time travel au where Cloud and Genesis (both from my post-dirge) mess around with an old Science Department prototype and get thrown back to 1 year before the training accident that triggered Genesis’s degradation. They proceed to act like the chaos gremlins that they are and make a right mess of things.

Chapter 2 is done! Chapter 3 has been planned and started.

    Tsurugi AU (AO3, tag)

Another FF7 time travel au where a post-Dirge (not canon Dirge - because that’s a travesty - but my own headcanon of the events, found here) Cloud goes back to the beginning of the Wutai War and decides to fight for Wutai under the pseudonym “Tsurugi”, taking care to not reveal his status as both a foreigner and a SOLDIER.

3 drabbles done, 4th drabble is in the works.

    Spider-Cloud AU (AO3, tag)

A collaboration with @wolf-pearl, this is an AU where Cloud gets bit by a mako enhanced and jenova-ed spider and develops spider-like mutations and abilities! Kunsel is also heavily featured, since he got bit by a different spider a while ago and is going to be showing Cloud the ropes.

First 3 chapters are done and out, the next few are in progress.

    Chasing Visions (AO3, tag)

A crack-taken-seriously AU inspired by “Saving Subject C” by Aimeelou and others where Cloud and Zack get sent back in time to but get turned into kids by Jenova. They separate (after waking Vincent) and Zack gets found and taken by a very confused and worried Genesis.

Chapter 2 is now done and posted! Chapter 3 has been started, but don’t expect it for a while.

    Fool’s Gold (tag)

A collection of drabbles connected by a WEAPON Cloud idea I had. Basically, post-canon, there comes a time with Gaia decides it does in fact need a WEAPON to protect it just in case, so it turns Cloud into one. It, however, doesn’t tell Cloud first, so he first sprouts a pair of rather large golden wings (feathers like living metal) and then actually hears the planet when he inevitably ends up in the church.

I have one drabble in progress with lots of ideas for various ways to work this idea into various time travel fics, as well as an idea to write a “bad end” fic, which would be one possible reason for a WEAPON Cloud to have to time travel in the first place. Expect to see some of these ideas come to fruition during whumptober!

    Hurricanes (tag)

A good end AU of Aimeelouart’s fic “The Adversary Fell, Like Lightning From the Heavens”, within itself is an AU of Violetgril’s fic “the lightning that preceded it struck no one but myself”. In it, the Cloud from my Leviathan’s Emissary AU (a WEAPON!Cloud within my Fool’s Gold continuity) is found before Junior arrives and is able to bring about a truly good end.

3 total parts are planned with the first one well on its way (and also almost 20k words 😅). Go visit the tag on Aimee’s blog for some fantastic art.

  • also before it starts to happen: if i see a single person calling july "gay wrath month" or saying "we deserve a second one" it is ON SIGHT. that is DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH. abled queers i will run you over with my wheelchair if you so much as reblog one of those comments.

  • Years ago I overheard (eavesdropped upon) a telephone conversation between a public parks official and a golf course owner.

Parks Official: No sir, you cannot

Parks Official: No. They are a protected species

Parks Official: You CANNOT shoot them

Parks Official: Or poison them, no. Or trap them

Parks Official: If you like, we can-- no, I'm it. I'm the ranking official here. There's nobody above me. My boss? You mean... the governor's office? Sure, I guess. Okay bye

After he hung up, he gave me this thousand-yard stare before answering my unvoiced question.

"There's a flock of flamingos at the 9th green disrupting golfers. He wanted permission to go out there with a shotgun and take care of matters, but sensed there might be... legal ramifications. So he called us."

I laughed. "Does that happen often?"

"Oh, we get calls like that a couple times a month."

  • Country clubs should be burned to the ground and their golf courses turned into community gardens i am 10000% serious

  • Was golf created for the sole purpose of hoarding ridiculously large amounts of land just to brag about how little they use it?

  • Yes, literally.

  • discovering the queer country scene has honestly been so healing because most queer musicians i've seen recommended for years i just couldn't really connect with because it wasn't the sort of music i listened to or had investment in and with queer country it's like. yes. this is the language i speak in. this is Fuck You, I Belong Here Too, not just as a queer person in the country but as a rural person among (sub)urban queers, and saying it with a laugh. when will my hometown take pride in me, goddamn it

  • Drop the list!!

  • FIRST: rachel holst does the adobe & teardrops blog as well as the rainbow rodeo newsletter & zine. look into the black opry also, there are plenty of black queer country/folk/americana artists & there is a lot of collaboration between them and other queer country/folk/americana musicians

    my personal list:

    • adeem the artist (especially the new album, white trash revelry)
    • paisley fields (stay away from my man is a good old fashioned honky tonk jam about gay on gay violence)
    • jake blount (the new faith is an afrofuturist album using roots music to explore life after climate collapse, HIGHLY recommend)
    • sarah shook & the disarmers (especially the album sidelong, ESPECIALLY the songs fuck up & dwight yoakam)
    • lavender country (everything but especially cryin' these cocksucking tears. patrick haggerty sadly passed in 2022 and we lost a real one. he self-described as a screaming marxist bitch)
    • flamy grant (okay so. bible belt baby is Technically a christian album that i was tricked into listening to. but listen. what did you drag me into is an instant classic)
    • mercy bell (especially who said we were friends. i can't hear the lyric "mea culpa/here's a gulpa/my drink in your face" and NOT recommend it)
    • amythyst kiah (if you haven't heard black myself by now what even are you doing. go listen to it)
    • do you want to speedrun a depressive episode as a queer woman who fears you may have too much in common with your father? listen to i drink by mary gauthier now
    • karen & the sorrows (there is a lot to recommend karen pittelman and the work she has done for queer country artists but i'm a useless lesbian so i'm submitting for consideration a photo of the red dress from the mv for guaranteed broken heart that i think about a normal amount:

  • There ain't no possible way that I'd remember to listen to any of these artists on my own so I made a handy-dandy playlist on Spotify with an on-the-nose title for all the other cowpokes who need to save/bookmark something and come back to it later.

It's basically the most recent album of all the artists listed above. It's about 7 hours long so have at it, y'all

  • So, going by the idea of "every truly great story has a random Texan" (see: Dracula, His Dark Materials), I asked my Tolkien encyclopedia wife what race/culture in The Lord of the Rings is the Texan equivalent. They got real mad when I suggested the Rohirrim (because horse culture, I didn't actually think that was the answer but I wanted to provoke my wife), and... I'm gonna step aside so my wife can rant about who in LotR is the actual Random Texan.

  • Horse =/= Texan.

See the thing about the Texan is that they’re alien, they think overly much of themselves, and they’re not actually as good at shit as they think they are.

You know who hits all those buttons?

    LEGOLAS GREENLEAF.

    1) he’s not familiar to the POV characters, being an elf.

    2) He and all Silvan elves think very highly of themselves even when it’s not really justified anymore.

    3) he foregoes a saddle in a situation where riding bareback is actively harder and more inclined to overexertion, probably bc he doesn’t actually know how to handle a saddle but is, bc of point 2, unwilling to reveal he has no idea what the fuck he’s doing.

Legolas Greenleaf is the Texan of Lord of the Rings.

  • I was thinking the dwarves myself, but yeah, this fits.

  • dwarves are miners, misunderstood, and live in the ancient mountains. Dwarves are Appalachian.

  • This is going to sound like I'm taking the piss, but I swear I'm not.

Where would we put orcs geographically, then? New Jersey?

  • A cursed hellhole that was once fertile earth, but is now blackened and twisted, and there is a toll to all who enter and leave? A place where petty status-boasting and backstabbing are the rule of the day? Yeah, I'd say that orcs are from New Jersey. 😉

  • Yes Elon is bad at running Twitter. It should be noted that he is more than likely intentionally tanking the value of Twitter, so he can declare bankruptcy. He must do this while looking like he's doing his best.

Remember, all this happened because he joked on Twitter about buying Twitter to temporarily spike his Twitter stock. This is blatantly insider trading, and the sort of thing the SEC loves punishing people for.

This put Elon in a tricky place. He could say he was joking, and risk getting investigated by the SEC. Or he could double down, and actually buy Twitter to prove he wasn't lying to boost his stock price. These were both horrible options for Elon. But being investigated by the SEC is the type of thing that rich people have nightmares about.

So he was forced to buy Twitter. He could not afford Twitter. So he was forced to engage in a leveraged buyout, meaning he had to pay a big chunk of the check in Tesla stock. This was a shit deal for Elon. Twitter was well known for essentially being at the peak of it's profitability, and the previous owners were looking for a nice exit. They were happy to sell the company to Elon for what was probably the highest price tag Twitter would ever have.

What this meant for Elon, was he had just used several billion dollars of his actually profitable company, and had to tie it's ankles to a company that would only drop in value. (and a company he had no idea how to run.) If Twitter drowns, Tesla does too.

His only way out is to tank Twitters value so the company can declare bankruptcy, sell off the assets, and stop bleeding money. But he can't LOOK like he's doing that ON PURPOSE for the same reason that he had to double down on buying Twitter in the first place: the SEC is very scary.

  • i'm not the praying sort, but i'll probably always have a soft spot for the astronaut's prayer

  • for those who aren't familiar with it, it's a possibly-spurious quote by alan shepard (and is thus sometimes referred to as the shepard's prayer) on the launchpad of Freedom 7, immediately before he became the first american in space. it goes like this:

"Dear Lord, please don't let me fuck up."
